As Senior Vice President for Cisco’s Network Software and Systems Technology Group, Ben Fathi leads the strategy, development, and architecture of Cisco IOS Software, the operating software that runs on millions of global networking devices in Internet service provider, enterprise, government, and small business networks.
Fathi has more than 30 years of experience in the computer industry, primarily leading the development of operating systems. Before joining Cisco, he held several leadership positions at Microsoft. Most recently, he was corporate vice president of development for the Windows Core Operating System Division, where he was responsible for the development of core technologies used in all versions of Microsoft Windows. As corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Security Technology Unit, he led the delivery of all core Windows security technologies.

He also managed the Security Response Center and the Security Outreach Team, focusing on protecting customers from online security threats. Fathi joined Microsoft as general manager for storage and high availability in the Windows Division.

Previously, Fathi worked at Silicon Graphics, MIPS, Masscomp, and Compugraphic, as well as several startups. Fathi holds bachelor’s degrees in computer science and psychology and a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Massachusetts.
